The ever growing android market is flooded with many apps. Here we introduce some essential apps for your android phone.For every category there are hundreds of choices to pick. Well, I’ve done some filtering and have gathered a list of 21 must-have Android Apps an Android user should get. I’ve broken it down to a few categories, namely security, backup, communication, browsers, tools, launcher and entertainment so you can just look at the categories you’d want recommendations for.

Security

AVG Antivirus

AVG Antivirus is a free antivirus app for Android. It is free and gives you many features to secure your Android phone from viruses, malwares and threats.

Viber is another free Android application which lets you send free messages and make free calls from your Android phone to other people who are also using Viber on their phone.

ROM Toolbox

Battery Defender is the most effective app to extend your battery life. It is not as complex as other apps in the same category, apps like Juice Defender and Easy Battery Saver. It just gives you the option to enable or disable Battery saving, and it works really well on my phone.
It disables unnecessary processes and apps running in the background and stops Wi-Fi Connectivity when not in use or when the screen is off.

Google Reader

Google Reader for android allows you to read all the news and feeds in one place. You can read all the latest news and posts from the popular blogs by adding their RSS Feeds to your Google Reader. It also syncs the feeds, so you can read these feeds on other devices too.

Olive Office Premium

Olive Office Premium is a free Android App that lets you view and edit documents like Word, PPT, XLS files and you can also read PDF files on it. Most other apps of this category are premium apps even though they offer generally the same features.

Launchers

Go Launcher

Go Launcher is the most advanced launcher for Android giving you in-depth options to customize your phone. There are thousands of paid as well as free themes, plugins and widgets available for Go Launcher.

Installing Jelly Bean (JellyBlast) on Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 – Step By step guide

Samsung Galaxy Y is the entry level Android smartphone and one of the best budget phone in Samsung Android devices. We already posted tips for installingNextToICSROM (Custom ICS ROM) and Aura (ICS Custom Rom) on Galaxy Y S5360, today we are going to show you how you can install latest Android version “Jelly Bean” via Custom ROM called “JellyBlast.”

Just checkout how your Samsung Galaxy S looks with this new Jelly Bean based Custom ROM:



Pre-requirements:

There are few important stuffs you need to take care before installing Custom ROM on any device. Here are few of them.

  • Download JellyBlast (JB) Custom ROM from here.
  • Make sure your mobile’s battery is charged atleast 70%, it should not get empty during the process as it may brick the device if got shutdown due to battery.
  • And the most important thing, you should be aware that doing this will break your device’s warranty.
  • Note: The guide provided below is 100% correct and works but we are not responsible for any thing (if) goes wrong with your smartphone.
OK, so if you are ready with all above points, lets start the installation process of JellyBlast on Samsung Galaxy Y S5360:

Rooting Galaxy Y:
In order to install this Custom ROM your device must be rooted. If your mobile is not already rooted, you can follow the steps provided in the following URL: Easiest Method to Root Samsung Galaxy Y S5360. Rooting is also very crucial so don’t make any mistake and follow the steps properly. 

 Installing ClockworkMod on Galaxy Y:
This is another important thing you need to do on your mobile if you already don’t have CWM installed. ClockworkMod is required to boot the device with the new kernel which we install during the JellyBlast installation. So make sure you have CWM recovery installed on the phone. If you don’t know how to do the same, follow these steps:

  • Download the CWM file from here. Its just 1.4 MB in size.
  • Transfer it to your mobile SD Card’s root directory via USB cable.
  • Turn off Mobile and Press+Hold Power + Home + Volume Up button simultaneously. Hold them for about 10 to 15 seconds until you see the logo.
  • Now scroll with volume up/down buttons and select “update zip from SD card” option.
  • Browse and select the download CWM file.
  • Wait for few seconds and you are done. 
Now we are ready to start JellyBlast.

Installing JellyBlast (JellyBean) Custom Rom:

Once you are ready with Root Process and CWM Recovery, also make sure that your phone is on Stock kernel (factory version). Now follow the below steps.

  • If you have any second partition on your mobile, just format the same and delete a2sd or data2sd.
  • Now Copy Paste the JellyBlast Custom Rom file into your phone’s SDCard. Make sure to put it in Sd card’s root directory so that it can accessed easily during recovery. (Downloaded in Pre-requirements section above).
  • Now turn off your mobile and press+hold Power+Home+Volume key to boot into CWM recovery mode.
  • Scroll with volume keys and click on Wipe data and cache
  • Scroll again and wipe Dalvik cache.
  • Now select “Install Sip from SD Card”
  • Browse and select “JELLYBLAST V3.signed.zip” from SD card.
  • Wait for few minutes and let the ROM install. Once installed you will see confirmation message on your screen about the same.
  • Once done, go back to main recovery page and select Reboot. 
That’s it. You have successfully installed Jelly Bean based JellyBlast Custom Rom on your Galaxy Y S5360. The first boot will take some time to initialize the new rom, so don’t panic.

If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out...

SECOND: Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have remote key less entry? This may come in handy someday.
Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phonefrom your cell phone.

To check your Mobile phone ' s serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 #
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to yourhandset..
Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the sim card, your phone will be totally useless.

You probably won ' t get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can ' t use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

FIFTH : Atm pin number Reversal - Good to Know
If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can
notify the police by entering your PIN # in reverse. For example, if your pin number is 1234,
then you would put in 4321.

The ATM system recognizes that your pin number is backwards from theATM card you placed in the machine. The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to the location.

Samsung Galaxy Y has been announced recently and is obviously a low end Android phone, similar to LG Optimums Me P350. It’s a budget phone which comes with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread with 3 inch Capacitive Display. It has a faster processor of 823 MHz which you might not get in other phones at this price. In this tutorial I will tell you how to root Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360 easily. All you need to do is follow the steps given below.  For better understanding I have also included a video at the end of the post. After you have rootedsamsung galaxy Y you can install custom ROM and if you’re lucky, you might even be able to install Ice Cream Sandwich on samsung galaxy Y at a later stage.

 
 

What is Rooting?
Rooting is a process by which you can access system files of yourAndroid OS. After rooting Samsung Galaxy Y, you can install applications which require access to these system files. It becomes necessary if you wish to customize your Android device and also install custom ROMs like Cyanogen Mod ROM's which are highly customizable and have a better performance than the stock ROM's.

  2. Download Update.zip
  3. Turn of your Samsung phone.
  4. Reboot into recover mode by pressing Home button + Volume up button and Power button for 20 seconds.
  5. When you are in recovery mode, select “Update from SD Card”.
  6. Now select Update.zip (the zip file you downloaded in step 1) and execute it by pressing the home button.
  7. Now your phone will be rooted after which you can select the reboot option.
  8. After this, your phone is rooted. I recommend you to download Busy Box from the Android Market after you have rooted your phone.
