Update Galaxy Ace S5830i to MindCR ICS Custom ROM

Update Galaxy Ace S5830i to MindCR ICS Custom ROM

samsung_s5830i_galaxy_ace

The Galaxy Ace S5830i can now be updated with a new custom Rom firmware, as those of xda-developers had just made available the ICS based MindCR software. Since now, there were only few updates (mostlyGingerbread ones) launched for the S5830i model of the Ace, as the most important upgrades (like the Jelly Bean based CM10) were offered mostly for the classic version of the already mentioned phone, the S5830. Anyway, today, I will teach you how to manually install the MindCR v1.0.12 custom ROM on your Samsung Galaxy Ace smartphone.
By applying this step by step guide, you will be able to update your handset with numerous features that will optimize the performances and the internal system; this means you will be able to obtain more from your Ace S5830i as you will have access to its OS, you will gain more speed, the battery life will be improved, the looks personalized (the ROM brings the ICS looks) and complex apps will be added and installed into the system. Furthermore, this is the most stable update available for your Ace so far, as there are no reported bugs or issues. In order to make a proper idea about the same, here are some of the MindCR custom ROM features:
Galaxy Ace MindCR main features
Galaxy Ace MindCR main features
As you can see, it will be a good idea to flash the above listed capabilities as we all know that the Ace is not a high end smartphone, though it offers decent specs. Anyway, before proceeding to more important aspects, you must remember that this is not an official upgrade provided by Samsung for your phone, so you cannot OTA apply the same. You must complete a manual operation, which I have described during the following lines. Only by performing the next steps you will be able to install the MindCR update on your S5830i.

Unfortunately, as you are dealing with a custom ROM, for being able to succeed with the installation procedure, you must first root the Galaxy Ace. Also, after gaining root access, you should flash a custom recovery image on your phone (such as CWM recovery), a tool which will be used for applying the update file from the SD card to the internal system. By rooting, the warranty will get void, so be careful in what you do. If somehow you brick your device, there’s nobody to help you out. You shouldn’t worry though as the warranty can be regained by downgrading to the stock ROM.
By flashing the update with a custom recovery image a full wipe of the system will be required. This means your data will be wiped out. Therefore, I recommend you to backup your personal info before heading to the proper steps. You should save only the data from the internal storage memory and not the one stored on the SD card. You can easily take care of this task, as there are many ways in which you can complete a backup operation. For suitable tutorials for your Samsung Galaxy Ace, you can anytime search through our how to section; you will find there everything you need for performing a full and safe backup.
Beside the root, custom recovery image and the backup, there are the preparation tasks. You must read this section as it can be considered as the most relevant one. You will not be able to update your Ace to the ICS based MindCR Custom ROM firmware without ensuring that: you can use a Windows running computer; on the computer and on your smartphone there shouldn’t be any security programs installed; the USB debugging option from your phone must be enabled “Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging”; and the battery should be charged (at least 70%) for being sure that the handset doesn’t turn off in the middle of the procedure.
Finally, do not on any circumstance, apply the steps from below for a similar device with the Samsung Galaxy Ace model number S5830i as you can end up in bricking your Android powered handset. That being told, you can safely begin the installation procedure.

How to Update Galaxy Ace S5830i to ICS based MindCR Custom ROM

  1. Download the update file from here.
  2. Save it to your computer.
  3. Use the USB cord and connect the handset with the PC.
  4. Copy the downloaded file to your phone SD card.
  5. Unplug the USB cable.
  6. Turn off your phone.
  7. Reboot in recovery mode.
  8. For recovery mode press and hold the Menu button while powering on.
  9. From the recovery menu first select to perform a wipe.
  10. For the wipe: “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”.
  11. Return by selecting “+++go back+++”.
  12. Next, select to install the update: “install zip from sd card” followed by “choose zip from sd card”.
  13. Pick the update file.
  14. Wait until the installation process ends.
  15. Select “+++go back+++” and “reboot system now”.
  16. If during the steps the Ace doesn’t power up you need to take of the battery and re-insert it; then re-do the steps and everything should be fine.
Congratulations, your Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i is now running the MindCR custom ROM firmware. Test the new OS and see how it performs on your phone. The ICS looks and extra features should be added to it, so do share us if you like or not the platform. Also, if there are bugs or issues into the system, share the same with us and with other users by using the comments area from below.

Like this Taste ROM based on the latest Android 4.1.2 ? We love it too and we know you are looking forward to install it on your phone now. Now please read below for important tips on how to make sure your installation goes smooth and you do not end up with any problems.

Samsung Galaxy Y USB Drivers

You will need to connect your Android phone with the computer. For that, please make sure you have installed the USB drivers for Samsung Galaxy Y properly. If not, you can download the latest official drivers from our Android USB Driverssection here:
Download Samsung Galaxy Y USB drivers!

Backup And Other Important Tips

Done with the USB drivers? Perfect. The tutorial is on the next page, but first, please take a look at the following tips and important points you need to take care of. These are important, as we don’t want anyone losing their personal data or apps:
Always backup your important data that you might need after you install a new custom ROM, an official software update or anything else. Make a backup for just in case, you never know when anything might go wrong. See below for some tips on how to backup data:

  • Backup your Apps.
  • Backup your SMS messages.
  • Backup Call History.
  • Backup APN Settings: GPRS, 3G, MMS Settings. How? Note down everything from: Settings > Wireless & Networks (More…) > Mobile networks > Access Point Names.
Samsung users can also back up data using Samsung KIES. If you backup datamanually, you get more options what to choose from and it is very easy to move data across Android devices from different manufacturers, i.e moving Samsung Galaxy S3 backup data to HTC One X.

If you already have a custom recovery (ClockworkMod, TWRP etc.) installed on your phone, we strongly recommend a backup using that as it creates a complete image of your existing phone set up.

A Few More Optional Tips That You Should Remember:

        1. Having problems connecting your Android phone to the computer? You need to enable USB debugging mode.

        2. Make sure your Android device is charged up to 80-85% battery level. Why? Because, if your phone goes off suddenly while installing a custom ROM, flashing an official firmware update or installing mods etc. — your phone might get bricked or go dead permanently. No one wants that, right?

        3. Most of the tutorials and how-to guides on MyTrickSource are for factory unlocked Android phones and tablets. We recommend NOT to try our guides if your phone is locked to a carrier, unless we have specified the carrier name or device model.

If you find the above tips useful and they were helpful to you, please consider giving us a +1 or LIKE to thank us!
All set and ready? Good. Now, let’s proceed with the tutorial on the next page and update Galaxy Y S5360 to Taste ROM Android 4.1 Jelly Bean custom firmware.

HOW TO: Install Taste ROM Android 4.1 Jelly Bean On Samsung Galaxy Y S5360

We have put together a detailed step-by-step instructions guide on how to install Taste ROM Android 4.1 Jelly Bean custom firmware on Galaxy Y S5360. If you are used to installing custom ROMs on your Galaxy Y S5360, then this should not be any different for you.
However, for beginners, you need to root your Samsung Galaxy Y and install a custom recovery. Please Google that up if you are unsure and make sure you read the tutorial once before actually performing it on your device.

To Remember:
  • This tutorial is only for installing Taste ROM Android 4.1 ROM on Samsung Galaxy Y S5360. Please do not try on any other Galaxy Y variants.

  • Samsung KIES will NOT detect your phone after installing this ROM because it is a custom firmware.
  • Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.

Complete Step-By-Step Instructions:

Step 1 - Download Taste ROM Android 4.1 ROM for Galaxy Y to your computer.

Step 2 - Connect and mount your Galaxy Y USB memory on your computer using the USB cable.

Step 9 - Then go back to the main recovery screen and select “install zip from SD card”.

Step 10 - Now select “choose zip from sdcard”. Using your volume keys, navigate to the Android 4.0 ROM zip file that you copied to your SD card and select it using the Power button. Confirm the installation on the next screen and the installation procedure should start now.

Step 11 - After the installation completes, go to “+++++Go Back+++++” and reboot the phone by selecting “reboot system now”

Your Galaxy Y S5360 will boot now and it might take about 5 minutes to boot on your first time. So, please wait.
That’s it! Your Galaxy Y should now have Taste ROM Android 4.2 Jelly Bean custom ROM installed on your phone! Go to Settings > About phone to verify.

Benefits Of Rooting Android Phones/Tablets

Benefits Of Rooting Android Phones/Tablets

Why do people root Android phones? We will look into some of the benefits  of rooting Android phones and tablets. It’s not that people would want to give up their official one year or two years of warranty and service in just a few minutes of doing nasty things (rooting your phone) with your Android device, but there is certainly a lot more advantage of doing that.
So, again, why do people root their Android devices? The simple answer to that would be, to unlock the full potential of their Android phones and tablets, and obtain some awesome benefits as mentioned below. We want to make this very clear, no Android manufacturer wants people to root their devices. You lose your official warranty when you root your Android phone or tablet and there is always a high risk involved in getting your Android device bricked (or permanently down) if you mess around with a lot of things. Please, always be careful!

Benefits Of Rooting Android Phones

Let’s take a quick look at some of the points why do Android enthusiasts like to root Android phones and tablets, even when they know this could harm their devices in several ways if done anything wrong.

Flash Custom ROMs

If your Android phone or tablet is not rooted, you wont be able to run custom ROMs. Why install custom firmware on your phone? Because they not only improve and optimize the Android system but can even give you a new UI and come with amazing features which sometimes can turn out to be really useful improvements for your Android device. your device becomes a lot faster, stable and gets a major performance boost.

Most of these optimizations and features cannot be usually installed on a default Android system since you are not allowed to modify the system files.

Overclock CPU

Just like a PC, once you have rooted your phone, you can overclock the CPU – means you can increase the processing power of your CPU to some extent. This will give you a more smoother Android experience plus if you were experiencing lag while using apps then this might help remove it. This might sound really tempting and easy to play around with, but this is very risky as it can fry your main board of the phone or the GPU.

NOTE: It is advised not to overclock too much. For example, if you have an Android phone with a 800MHz CPU, you should only overclock it to around 900MHz. Or if you have a dual-core/quad-core CPU, you should not overclock it by more than 300MHz. You also have to do some research on your device’s stable overclock limit before proceeding any further.

Move Apps From Internal Storage To SD Card

This is our favourite for budget and low-end Android phones. If you are running low on internal storage, you can move almost every app to your SD Card. This frees up internal storage for system use and makes your internal storage clean and tidy — and also allows you to install a lot more apps n your phone!

Modify System Files, Deep Into Android OS

Root also allows you to explore system apps and even modify them to your specific need. This will help you to get ported features by developers on your phone and even give you the opportunity to modify yourself. Running low on space? You can delete unnecessary system apps and gather up some useful space all with rooting your phone. Tjis could be useful for budget Android phones that don’t come with a lot of internal storage.

Backup Android Phone With Nandroid

This requires you to have a custom recovery (preferably: ClockworkMod Recovery). No need to use a computer to backup Android apps, contacts and other personal data. When you root, you have the option to install a custom recovery on your phone.

This recovery allows you to install custom firmware and most importantly, you can save the current state of your Android phone or tablet using the backup option (Nandroid) there. You will be able to save every preference, setting and app right to the phone and can easily restore your things whenever you want, thus simplifying everything and making it very easy. This is what we always suggest to do before trying out a new custom ROM or a risky system tweak.

Advanced Task Managers – Save Battery

If you use a lot of apps within a day then you probably are a victim of unnecessary battery lost because all of the apps you run stay in the RAM for quite a long time even though you have closed them. This is where an advanced task managers come in. Their purpose is to kill tasks that are running in the background and always draining your battery. Once you have rooted your phone you can find several free advanced task killers that periodically clean up your RAM and help you save up battery.
